DampRid was founded as in 1948 Vapor Products, Inc., in Orlando, Florida where it is still head-quartered.  In the beginning, DampRid’s products were sold exclusively in Florida department stores. 1960 marked a major turning point when DampRid began selling its products in other retail outlets, including grocery and drugstores.  This move spurred the rapidly accelerated growth pattern that continues today.  As of 2005, DampRid products are available in over 25,000 retail outlets in 24 countries worldwide.

Through the years, DampRid has introduced a number of products designed to absorb moisture, eliminate odors and reduce allergens, continually expanding and improving its line.  The company’s original product, Mildewcide, was replaced in 1972 by the Refillable Room Freshener.  MagicDisk debuted in 1956.  Today’s line of over 20 DampRid products ranges from moisture absorbers to a liquid de-icer and includes a line of fine products for workshop, garage and kitchen use.

DampRid is now a wholly owned subsidiary of W.M. Barr.
